Recap + Gallery: Creating Connections with CBC Entertains

On Thursday, March 7th, CBC Entertains and BIPOC TV & Film came together with our alumni for a day of creating connections.

We kicked off the morning with two insightful panels featuring industry experts from CBC and from BIPOC TV & Film (titled Journey with the CBC, and Getting Hired, respectively). They delved into topics like navigating the screen sector as a BIPOC creator and breaking into the world of production. One of the many key messages we left with: everyone’s path in the industry is different and often not linear, and that’s OK.

Met with so many BIPOC creatives and felt more encouraged by seeing that everyone’s path to success is different but doable.

We then dedicated the afternoon to networking and creating connections. Attendees were given the opportunity to participate in intimate breakout sessions with CBC executives from the Factual, Documentary, Kids, Drama, Comedy and Acquisition departments. These sessions offered insider insights into the industry and demystified the process of partnering with the CBC. Throughout the afternoon, attendees who were not in breakout sessions were able to network with independent production companies that had collaborated with the CBC. This was a chance for creators to introduce themselves, forge new connections, explore potential collaborators, and discuss exciting projects in a relaxed setting.

Check out our Welcome Kit to learn more about the event, including the CBC Executives and independent production companies involved.

Keep an eye out for future events and initiatives from BIPOC TV & Film. Together, we're making strides towards a more inclusive and diverse industry!
