BIPOC TV & Film commends permanent funding for the Indigenous Screen Office

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

Toronto, ON | March 14, 2024 BIPOC TV & Film commends today’s announcement from the Ministry of Canadian Heritage regarding permanent funding for the Indigenous Screen Office.

"This funding allocation marks a pivotal moment in our sector’s journey and signifies a tangible commitment to recognizing and respecting Indigenous self-determination and narrative sovereignty, crucial steps towards reconciliation and cultural preservation,” says BIPOC TV & Film Executive Director, Kadon Douglas. “Congratulations to Kerry Swanson and the ISO team on this milestone.”

The $65M investment over five years, alongside the $13M ongoing commitment, underscores the government’s recognition of the vital role Indigenous storytelling plays in shaping our collective identity. It acknowledges the need for sustained support to amplify Indigenous narratives and empower Indigenous creators to reclaim their cultural heritage and share their stories on their own terms.

This funding announcement serves as a beacon of hope and affirmation for Indigenous creators and communities across Canada, reaffirming their inherent right to self-representation and cultural expression. BIPOC TV & Film looks forward to continuing its partnership with the Indigenous Screen Office in championing Indigenous-led initiatives and amplifying underrepresented and marginalized creatives in the screen industry.
